Almost there...

Rolling over is something that Mr. Samuel is still working on, so the other day I had the idea to sit in the chair back behind where he was laying on the floor and try to get his attention. This way he would have to turn his body in my direction which would cause him to "maybe" roll over. My strategy almost worked...
He's got the idea...
He started to roll so he could see me...
Sooo close!!!

Keep trying little guy. You'll get the hang of it soon.

Dig Dig Dig

Samuel has discovered how much fun it can be to dig in a container and pull things out or just rustle them around with his hands. It started when he discovered the basket of toys I keep on the living room floor for him. He relentlessly pulled at it a couple of nights ago and I was afraid he may give himself a splinter. That's when it dawned on me that he may enjoy this, so I grabbed a big plastic bowl out of the kitchen and put a few toys in it. Wow, did I find a new pastime for him. When I put it on the floor in front of him he got right down to business and never looked up. So cute!! I grabbed a couple of minutes of the bowl digging action on video tonight...

Five Months Old Today (well yesterday)

Dear Samuel James,

You are five months old today. As I write this you should be waking up any minute from an over two hour nap you've taken. Way to go! You are growing and changing so quickly that Mommy and Daddy can hardly keep up. If I were to describe you in one word it would be "joyful." You are so full of life and energy. Already you try to grab anything and everything in sight. While holding you at the dinner table you've almost pulled my plate off several times. You've recently learned how to jump in your jumperoo and you're now a super jumper. You love that thing and we get a kick out of watching you because you like to slurp and suck on your fingers while you jump. You also started sitting up by yourself for the first time about a week ago. You have too many facial expressions to count, and blowing "rasberries" is what you do when you want to get our attention. When we look at you you get a big grin on your face. Did I mention you're very alert and curious? You don't miss a thing! I think Daddy and I better be prepared when you start crawling. We also love your adventurous spirit. You like for Daddy to play a little rough with you and being tossed in the air thrills you. You laugh and giggle when we make silly sounds with you and you have a ticklish spot on your neck. You have a sensitive side too we've noticed. You pay very close attention to our facial expressions and get a concerned look on your face if you think something is wrong. When your feelings get hurt your bottom lip pokes way out. You love being around people and you're quick to smile when they talk to you. You bring countless amounts of joy and happiness to this world already. We love you so much and thank God that He chose us to be your parents.

Love,

Mommy

A Quilt Made with Love

We received a special package in the mail recently from my close friend, Sue.

She hand made this quilt for Samuel. What a great surprise. It's perfect for him to lay on and play with his toys.

She titled the quilt "Sweet Dreams" and typed a little note to Samuel along with his birthdate, weight, and height on the underside of it. Thank you Sue! This is something we will have and treasure forever.

Look Who's Sitting Up by Himself

Over the past week Samuel has been getting better and better at sitting by himself. He is so proud! Today for the first time I actually took my hands off of him and let him go. I propped a little wedge pillow behind him just in case he fell back.
He had such a great time exploring his toys from this new perspective. I love seeing his little profile.
This little guy is getting so very active. He wants to get his hands on whatever he sees.

Ooops! He took a tumble but didn't seem too bothered by it.

Rise and Shine

Things change on a daily basis around here regarding Samuel's sleep patterns. Anyway, he took a great nap the other day, so after he'd already been asleep over two hours I went into his room to see if I could get some pics of him. I figured if he woke up it was no big deal. He was in such a sound sleep I had a great time just watching him and clicking away with my camera. I thought the photo above was so cute because of that lock of hair that is draped up over the blanket.
Such a sweetheart! We still swaddle him for sleep and it really helps. He goes down with his paci but always spits it out at some point. I don't care what they say about not putting blankets in the crib. They're so soft and feel much better than a cold sheet on his head. Well, I do care a little :) if he was smaller and less able to move around I wouldn't do it.

He's beginning to stir in this pic. Those eyes are thinking about popping open...

I couldn't resist those chubby little feet and ankles...

Now we're rubbing our eyes. Look at those hands and wrists. They're so squeezable!

Big yawn...ahhhh....

Well hello there Mr. Sunshine.
