An Unexpected Blessing and Fun Time with My Boy

Samuel and I had an unexpected blessing come our way a week or so ago.  For starters, I've been trying to take advantage of the time I have left with him as just he and I.  Don't get me wrong, we're super excited to get our sweet little baby here with us.  We know he will multiply the joy and the love, but I know I've just been conscious of the fact that my time will soon be divided and want to enjoy these special moments with my big boy.

A few weeks ago, I saw where Sesame Street Live was coming and thought it would be fantastic to take Samuel.  He's at the perfect age for it and loves Elmo and the gang right now.  He's never been to any kind of production like this and I knew he would be in awe.   When I got online and started pricing tickets for the three of us to go, my excitement quickly withered.  To get good enough seats for him to enjoy it (or any seats for that matter) was way too expensive for us to justify during this season with the baby coming and all.  I had to encourage myself with thoughts like, "It's not the end of the world," "there's always next year,""you can teach him to appreciate the more simple things in life.. yada, yada, yada." I let it go at that but made a mental note to check C's List (you know that list) to see if anyone would be selling tickets at the last minute.  I checked a few times and a couple of people were offering tickets for the same crazy prices. I gave it one more try the day before the first performance, and low and behold one person was offering two tickets for Friday morning's show for $18 total!!  I thought I was seeing things.  I told Tyson and he thought it was a great idea for me to get the tickets and take Samuel.  Long story short by Thursday evening I had the tickets in my hand.  I know you're probably thinking by now, "Get it a grip, there's bigger disappointments life!"  I agree (I was telling myself the same thing as I watched a homeless woman pushing her shopping cart the same day), but there's probably nothing that touches that deep place in my heart more than when it's obvious God cares about even tiniest longings in your heart and then shows up to say, "here you go".   In the same way, as a parent I longed to bless my child with something I knew he'd love.  God showed me that he feels the same way about me and it just got me!

Makes me think of the scripture that says,

“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone?  Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?  If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!"

Here's a video of me trying to get the "hype" going when we got there.  He was very chill at first.  He had had a cold all week.  Then asks if we have tickets at the end. LOL

Tickets in hand. Yeah!!  Let's go!

Here's our ticket, Sir!

This was a display in the lobby that you could push to watch Elmo dance!  One of the only "free" attractions!

I couldn't believe how good our seats were.  I felt bad for the folks who actually paid a lot of money to sit on the floor level because we were just behind them and up five rows and could see absolutely perfectly.  Here he is just taking it all in asking me over and over where Big Bird was.

I assumed he would want to sit in my lap, but I was wrong! He insisted in sitting in his own seat.  He could see so well, he didn't want to move.

My favorite moment of the whole experience is in this video!   I captured the beginning of the show and Samuel's expressions.  I have to confess, I teared up when Big Bird came out.  Don't forget, I'm really pregnant and super emotional so it doesn't take much these days.

Big Bird in all his glory!!

Here's the $15 "Spinning gimmick light" I did my absolute best to avoid, but as you can see didn't quite  succeed.  What do you do when Johnny and Suzie and everyone else around you have their special spinning Elmo?

Days later, he's still talking about "The Show" and we watch the videos over and over on the computer.
I'm still laughing at myself that I got so choked up when Big Bird came out.

Picnics are Fun!

To make our PB&J lunch a little more exciting, we took it outside for a "picnic."
Can you tell how much more exciting lunch became??
